Please excuse the mess. I'm in the process of moving to a new server and new blogging software. It'll be a while before this place gets to be looking like normal again.

I realized a few people (mainly my mom) may be worried about a gold dog I twittered about taking to the vet this morning. So I figured I'd write a quick update.

Some of you may remember 2 years ago, Cisco was not quite himself for a month or two over the summer. We ran all sorts of test on him. I think the vet might have been more worried about him than I was -- kept him for an entire day, did an ekg, x-rays, blood work, blood work, and more blood work. We never did find out the cause, but he did eventually get better.

Well, it started happening again. I started seeing the same signs and was wavering between, I'm over-reacting/he's probably just finally settling down and he's getting sick again. Chris said if I was worried I should go ahead and take him in.

Yup, pretty much the same symptoms as two years ago (just not as bad) -- it happened about the same time of year too. After lots of poking and prodding, and questions, blood drawn, chest x-rays, etc. We have a possible diagnosis: his allergies may be causing some exercise induced asthma. And his chest x-rays show a bronchial infection. Based on his x-rays, the vet said if he wasn't in as good of shape as he is, he would appear a lot sicker instead of just tired and mopey.

Good news, Cisco doesn't have to stop running, but he'll probably never be an olympian either.

I probably should have blogged about this a few months ago when everyone else was doing it but as usual, I'm behind.

Let me introduce the few readers I have to Ficlets which was written by two guys I am fortunate enough to work with.

What is a ficlet? It's short story written in 1024 characters or less. It's a great site for anyone who enjoys writing or wants to improve their writing. The site offers inspiration in the form of pictures or words -- or you can use someone else's ficlet as a source of inspiration and write a prequel or sequel to it. If you're not a writer, I encourage you to go and read what people are writing. Some of the stories are really good.

Not convinced? You can listen to Kevin talk about. Kevin's passion and enthusiasm is contagious.

Birthday Dinner

Earlier this month I had yet another birthday. Yup, that must mean I'm older. A few friends were able to join me to celebrate the day before at Lebanese Taverna. Chris got me one of the lenses I had sitting on my wish list (there are a few). It's a macro lens. I've been having fun playing with close up shots.

Pink close up

I also changed jobs this month. I know you're thinking "again?" I didn't go far this time. I'm now working for the development team that I've been supporting since I joined AOL back in October. My boss changed, the location of my desk changed, but other than that I'm still working with most of the same people and doing basically the same thing (fixing bugs for now). Does this make me wiser? Probably not. But I am fortunate to be working with some very talented and very smart people. One can always hope some of that smartness might rub off on me.

Keeping Watch

Now what about this more mature? Yeah, that ain't happening.

And for the other random updates: Cisco's first trial of the year resulted in on Q. We'll be doing a few more in June and July. Hopefully we can get some more Q's and maybe a title or two this year.

This blog has been idle for a while so now there are a bunch of little things to write about.

We've now been in our house for a bit over two years and it's finally starting to look like a home. For our two year house anniversary, we actually hung pictures. And we've finally been putting colors up on the walls (pictures maybe coming soon -- no promises). Our great room is now orange, and while I was at the Web 2.0 Conference, Chris surprised me by painting our kitchen the yellow I had picked out and bought months before. Our latest project is our bedroom which is finally not blue. The bedroom is still in progress, but we hope to finish it up soon.

On the work front, I'm changing positions. I'm moving over to dev instead of just supporting them. Chris thinks and change is in his future, but still working where he's working, just maybe for someone else.

Last weekend, I assisted Kerry with a wedding for a couple hours in the morning. Here are a few shots from the day: weddingImages.jpg

Cable Car

My dad seems to be dropping hints that I'm behind in my blogging. Guess I should do something about that.

I'm out in San Francisco attending the Web 2.0 Expo for work. Over all the conference has been disappointing, but the experience has been great. More about the disappointment in a later post.

My quick summary so far:

How cute is that?

My mom and dad have started their own blogs. I'm looking forward to reading their blogs.

I'm probably the last person you'd expect to see blogging about cleaning. But today, that's what I'm doing.

We got our dining room set close to two years ago and had yet to put anything in our china cabinet. Why? because there was this film on the glass and mirrors that countless washings had not managed to remove.

Enter the glass cleaner recipe from my mom's old neighbor (who coincidentally was part of the longest married couple at our wedding):

  1. 1 Gallon Water
  2. 1 Pint Alcohol
  3. 1/2 cup sudsy Ammonia
  4. 1 teaspoon dishwashing liquid

Goodbye film! I can finally see through the glass! Oh and I managed to clean all the nose prints off the rest of the windows too

I was adding some of older pictures to Flickr today. Here are pics of the dogs when we fist got 'em.

These were taken with my Canon S20. My first "real" digital camera. (I have an Apple Quicktake 150, but the picture quality wasn't good enough for me to take digital seriously.)

Yesterday was Chris' birthday. (Happy Birthday Chris!)

Nothing too special. We tried Vintage 50 for dinner. And I let Chris beat me got beat by Chris in Wii tennis.

So there is this thing called Twitter. What you ask is it? I'm still trying to figure that out.

I first heard about twitter from Jason during the Novermber Mash-up week at work. A couple weeks later I signed up to see what all the fuss was about. I still don't get it. I'm told that once you have friends and your own twitter network it starts to make more sense.

Yesterday we had this freak late winter rain/sleet/snow storm. One of the guys in my group said it was getting bad outside, so I decided to leave early. The road to get home was closed due to an accident. My attempt at a detour didn't work out either. Of course what do I think while I'm waiting in a line of non-moving traffic? That I shoud have set up my phone so I could twitter from it.

So before the twitter thing dies, I figure I might as well jump on the band wagon. You can catch my twitters right here on my blog or subscribe to my twitter feed or better yet subscribe to my buddy feed (another little known neat thing AOL offers).

Oh by the way, I did eventually make it home yesterday. The next way I tried, the road was also closed. I ended up practically back at work before I found a route home. Two hours later I made it home to two hungry pups.

Cisco walked into the middle of a Wii Tennis game and got smacked in the face with the Wii remote. I think he's going to forgive me for a banana. I think it was the initial shock of what did I do wrong that really bothered him. But he seems to have forgiven me and is happily playing with his toys.

Hopefully we learned to be more observant of the position of the dogs and they dogs will have learned to stay out of the way (usually they stay at a distance and look at us like we're nuts).

In completely unrelated news, we finished painting the family room orange (yay) -- pics hopefully coming soon. Yesterday we went out to dinner with friends and the over to another friends surprise birthday party. Yes she was surprised (as her birthday was back in December).

I feel like I've been behind on posting since I switched over to the new blogging software. I think I'm finally caught up. What that means, I don't exactly know.

I think all the features are working over here with the exception of the feeds. I'm going to try and re-establish the feeds that were present in the old blog so hopefully people who are using feed readers won't have to change anything. I'll let you know how it goes. I've never played with feeds before so I've got some learning to do.

On another note, anyone should be able to leave comments now whether you're logged in or not. You'll have to enter your e-mail address, but that won't be shown anywhere (that way there's a chance you're a human posting and not some bot). So if you're reading this, try it out and leave me a comment. I like comments, even though I don't get a lot of them.

Playing in the Snow

Sunday we awoke to everything turning white. I had forgotten snow turning into a wintry mix was in the forecast for the day and groaned a little at the white stuff.

As luck would have it the wintry mix stayed mostly snow and we ended with quite a few inches of the white stuff. Later it turned to rain and the melting began. It could have been a lot worse.

Chris and I spent last weekend in Orlando. Chris was down there the week before supporting the Woman in Aviation Conference. Since he was already down there and it was a long weekend, I flew down to join him.

I flew down early Saturday morning. The rest of Saturday was spent bumming around between trips to the conference for Chris to set up and take down the equipment. Our hotel was across the stree from Downtown Disney, so we made the first of many trips over there. The lego store was really cool. For any lego fans out there, the Ultimate Collector's Millennium Falcon™ is coming out in October. How cool is that? We also found a new artist we like. The Frogman does bronze statues of frogs and other amphibians. I'm generally not a frog loving person, but there is something about his pieces that draws me in.

Can You See Me?

Sunday we spent at the Animal Kingdom. Last time Chris and I were in Disney it was 1996 and the animal park wasn't open yet. It's hard to believe that a.) I've known Chris that long and b.) it was that long ago that we were last down there. It was so cold on Sunday. I froze all day and was too busy looking for the perfect sweatshirt that I never got one to keep me warm. It was interesting to see the animals on the the Kilimanjaro Safari. Taking pictures in a moving vehicle isn't easy.

Sunday night we had dinner at Jiko. We'd highly recommend it to anyone going down to Orlando. It's in the Animal Kingdom lodge and requires reservations. After dinner we went back to Downtown Disney were I finally got a sweatshirt so I wouldn't freeze the next day.

Monday was spent at Epcot. We slept in. Had a leisurly lunch at the Rainforest Cafe. There is one near us, but we never go. Our meal left us wondering why.

By the time we got to Epcot, the lines for some of the rides were extremely long. The two rides Chris really wanted to go on (Test Track at Epcot and Expedition Everest at Animal Kingdom), he didn't get to do 'cause the lines were so long and he didn't want to wait. We did do Mission Space. The have two versions now, Orange more intense training and Green less intense training (no spinning). When the guy asked which one we wanted to go on, I asked how intense the spinning was. He said 35mph. So I said we'd take the orange. Mission Space is the only ride I've been on where barf bags have been provided. Eeeks! Actually it was really cool. I might even do it again someday.

We stayed at the park until the end to see the light show. Have I mentioned I love fireworks? I'm glad we stayed until the end, but I'm also glad I had my sweatshirt -- it was cold!

Epcot At Night

Tuesday we left. Tuesday it was also warm enough to wear short sleeves -- the kind of weather I was expecting the entire time we were down in Flordia.

Special thanks to my mom and dad for coming down to stay with the boys while we got away for the weekend. We really appreciate it.

New Work Toy :-D

This was a LONG week. I worked. A lot. The good news is everything is about done so hours should be returning to normal.

I had dinner with friends on Thursday which was nice. But I've barely had dinner with Chris these last few weeks so I missed out on doing that that night too. Of course now that I may make it home in time for dinner next week, he's going out of town. I'm going to join him next weeekend, so I'm looking forward to that.

I really have nothing to write about that isn't work related right now. So on the last work related note. I FINALLY got my new laptop for work. Goodbye Dell. Hello MacBook Pro.
