Please excuse the mess. I'm in the process of moving to a new server and new blogging software. It'll be a while before this place gets to be looking like normal again.

Well it's 2009 already and this blog is still here. A little dusty perhaps but still here. I still haven't changed it like I was planning on, but let's face it, it may be 2010 before I get around to it.

Berkley chasing Riot - Photo by

We've had a busy fall raising a Riot and trying to keep Cisco and Berkley healthy. Riot is for the most part well-behaved these days and Cisco and Berkley seem to being doing pretty well too.

We had pictures of the dogs taken to mark Cisco's 7th birthday and Riot turning 6 months. They were taken by Stephen Bobb of FidoJournalism and we think they turned out fantastic! (The picture in this post is one of the ones he took.)

Chris and I are both starting the year with the same companies we started last year with (this might be the first time in a long time we can say that). I'm not sure we can say we'll be ending the year the same way, but time will tell.

I could end this post saying I resolve to start blogging more, but lets play that one by ear.

Wishing everyone the best for 2009!

So I finally got called out for my lack of blogging. Sorry JR and thanks for checking. I can make a ton of excuses, but I won't. Just one. I'm kinda over this blogging software and want to switch again, but I haven't found the time to invest in setting something else up.

Not much exciting has happened in the last few months. We've been really busy, but with what, I don't know. Here's a brief re-cap of the highlights.

For as long as I can remember growing up, every year my dad would bring home these printouts with these ASCII charts for my aunt the nun. They were biorhythm charts and I can remember looking over this print outs following the rhythms with my fingers and pointing out what days were going to be "bad" days.

I've been in a rotten mood all week (especially towards the beginning of the week). Even though it wasn't a great week, it wasn't nearly as bad a my mood and I made it seem. This got me wondering and I decided to check out my biorhythm.

My biorhythm around 01/28/2008

Sure enough my chart shows an emotional and physical low for the beginning of this week. Coincidence? Maybe. It's hard to believe that everyone who shares my birthday has the same rhythmic cycle as I do (biorhythms are based on your birthdate).

I had all but forgotten about this small part of my childhood until sometime last year when I was discussing with a friend over IM our rotten moods. Something triggered my memory and I decided to check it out. Sure enough our charts mirrored our moods. The few times I've checked since then, it's been pretty accurate. I'd be interested to know does your chart reflect you?

Here are a few links to calculators I've found online:

Not Even One Good Shot

Life always gets so busy this time of year. So I figured I'd give a quick update of what's been going on around here.

December started with a quick visit from Chris' parents and me off to Cleveland for a final goodbye to my Uncle Ed. The rest of the month has been a bit of a blur.

Some of the highlights include Chris getting a new car (yes, I finally caved, but the threat of expensive repair bills looming overhead got to me), Missy and PJ's annual holiday potluck, unexpectedly running into Missy and PJ the following weekend at the holiday party of one of Chris' boss,' and finally getting ornaments on the tree. On the work front I've been busy working on a new project, learning more Ruby on Rails, and crashing my own holiday party (going as Tony's guest since I didn't RSVP myself).

On a sad note, my Aunt Marianne died unexpectedly this weekend. Last I heard funeral arrangements were still being made, but I may be headed back up to Cleveland later this week.

A Good Weekend

Our weekend started Friday morning after a conference call with the guys in Dublin about my latest project for work. Gotta love summer flex hours. Cisco and I headed out to Winchester to the Blue Ridge Dog Training Club's agility trial. Cisco had two great runs including getting second place in Open Standard. This is his first standard leg in almost 2 years. We took a large part of last year off to deal with teeter issues, but still that's a long time.

Saturday Berkley joined us in trekking back out to Winchester for day 2 of the trial. Cisco had two decent runs. Our standard run was screwed up after I became frazzled after almost tripping over the chute. Berkley had one run and he did outstanding. He kept all his bars up, got a perfect score and took second place for his 2nd novice standard preferred leg. (Not bad for the guy that usually gets left at home.)

Sunday the fun continued. Cisco had two more good runs. Not quite qualifying runs, but I can't complain either. Berkley continued his winning streak getting his 3rd and finals novice std. leg for his NAP title! I guess I really need to start taking him more often.

This is the first year we've done the Blue Ridge trial. It's a one ring trial so the day is a bit longer than a two ring trial, but it was a lot of fun.

***Updated: Turns out Berkley didn't get his 3rd leg on Sunday. I thought he had knocked over part of the broad jump, and I guess I was right. Upon closer inspection, they made us two ribbons for Saturday's run.

Playing in the Snow

Sunday we awoke to everything turning white. I had forgotten snow turning into a wintry mix was in the forecast for the day and groaned a little at the white stuff.

As luck would have it the wintry mix stayed mostly snow and we ended with quite a few inches of the white stuff. Later it turned to rain and the melting began. It could have been a lot worse.

It's Not Dark

Well not exactly early, but before dark. First time in a few weeks that's happened. Still had some stuff to do when I got home, but it was nice to have dinner with my husband at a decent hour.

I'm going to be participating in a 12 week fitness challenge begining May 15th.

Here's the gist of what I have to do. Wish me luck!

  1. Keep a food diary. This is so helpful in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
  2. Do 30 minutes of cardio at least 3 times weekly
  3. Do 30 minutes of resistance training (training with weights) at least two times weekly.
  4. Do 30 minutes of stretching/yoga/flexibility work at least once weekly in addition to the exercise requirements.
  5. Keep track of points. (point system detailed in other documents).
  6. Put up some $$$. If you drop out of the challenge, your check gets sent to the charity.
  7. Maintain a healthy diet.
  8. Submit points and weight loss (-pounds and -% Body fat) weekly, and inches lost monthly.
  9. Set a particular and specific fitness goal to be able to complete by the end of the challenge.

Yup, today I'm the big 3-0. Don't feel any different. I did have an awesome party on Sunday to celebrate. I think I need to turn 30 every year just to have a party!
