Well, the new job has been keeping me busy. Plus I've had a ton of stuff to do. Since my dad said I hadn't blogged enough lately, I guess I'll give an update on my week.

The new job is great! I spent most of the week getting things set up and reading up on what I'm going to be doing. I even got to play a little bit. I'm looking forward to this week. I think I'm going to learn a lot more.

I spent my evenings finishing programs and menu cards for Lizabeth and David's wedding which was Saturday.

Oh and the 12 week challenge is starting up again. Wish me luck. I need it! I've completely gotten out of a routine with the new job routine, so I need this motivation to get back on track.

What happens when you get to work and the power is out? Actually all the power was out except for most of the server room, my cube, and two other developers' cubes.

The power was cut to the entire building around 9. They needed to replace the transformer. Most of the day was spent watching them work. The power didn't come back on until shortly before three. What a great way to spend your second to last day.

Since I'm in a constant state of unhappiness when it comes to this job, I decided to update my resume on monster.com. Well, I never finished updating it -- I managed to put an end date on my last job and add this job, but never entered a descritpion.

Even with my incomplete resume, I've been getting an average of 6-8 inquiries a week, nothing had peaked my interest enough to do anything about it.

I can group the e-mails I receive into three categories:

1. The I need to fill this position kind. I like these, they tell you the job description, they for the most part relate to your skill set (but FYI I'm a developer with some SQL experience, just 'cause you see SQL on my resume, doesn't mean I'm anywhere near qualified as a Sr. SQL Developer or DBA). Sometimes they even sound interesting -- if I wanted to move. 2. The I got a bunch of positions to fill and some keyword on your resume just happened to match something in one of the descriptions. These e-mails are usually accompanied by an attached word document with 10 or so positions for various positions I'm not qualified for or have no interest in or places I would not want to live. I no longer open the word document unless the e-mail message is something other than generic.
3. The please call me about a postion kind. This is the most surprising of the bunch. Does that really work? The e-mail I got this morning said "Please call me regarding a .net position in dc" That's it. Do you know how many different types of .net positions there are? I'd only be interested in maybe 20% of them and of that 20% probably 60% of them are either too junior or too senior. Maybe it's just me, but I like to know a little bit more about the position before I take the time and the effort to call and find out more. This is the second please call me about a position e-mail I've gotten this week with nothing other than a requst for me to call a complete stranger. Delete.

I dunno, maybe these techniques work, but to me it seems like it would be in everyone's best interest to send more specific details and send things to people who are looking in your market.

I'm thinking I need to have this tatooed across my forhead.

I am so sick of the e-mails: open a ticket that says XYZ. I would have taken THE SAME AMOUNT OF TIME to open a ticket as it did to send the e-mail.

Please coordinate a meeting with everyone listed on this e-mail to discuss blah. It would HAVE TAKEN THE SAME AMOUNT OF TIME to send a meeting notice as it took to send the e-mail to everyone asking me to invite them to a meeting.

Please write an e-mail saying XYZ for so and so to send out. Ummm, if you know what the e-mail should say then you or so and so should write the e-mail not me.

Please add this to the contacts. Why didn't you just add it to the contacts INSEAD OF E-MAILING ME TO DO IT?!?!?!?

So I'm leaving my house this morning, feeling like I've forgotten something. Cisco's giving me this look like "what do you mean you're leaving me." (Which probably means he'll tear something up today.) I'm cruising along to work (my 55 minute drive took me all of 20 minutes today -- thank you to everyone who took today off), called the vet to get some tick preventative (we've pulled 3 ticks off of Berkley in the last couple of weeks), so over all it was a very productive morning.

I get to work, and I'm getting everything out of the car and oh look, I forgot my purse! So I have

• no key to get in the building (which doesn't open for another 25 minutes since I'm so early)
• no money for lunch
• no money to go pick up the medicine I just requested from the vet (what I was planning on doing at lunch or on my way home)
• And no form of identification

Of course I had to call Chris who after a good laugh agreed to take me out for lunch.

And in other randomness for this morning...

• The website I helped re-design was shown on the today show this morning -- fly.faa.gov (BTW, it doesn't work in Safari -- I hate sites that don't work in all browsers (obviously I had no control over this)). It's weired seeing something you worked on on TV. But it is a very helpful site if you're looking for airport delays. Chris will have a busy day trying to keep the servers up with all the traffic that will be generated.
• I feel horrible about the explosion at the Mason County Animal Shelter. But it seems like the good news is more pets than they initially thought made it.
• Last night I updated the previous post to include links to Cisco and Berkley's standard runs from Saturday, the week before last.
